She seems like a good mom.
I think I'll assume Yonder Vittles knows nothing about evangelical religion. I'm of the opinion that you can't do satisfying humor about something you don't understand, because it will be filled with clichés and misguided ideas, and this video pretty much proves it for me. Yes, they try to "fix the gays" but they are Christians! Of course they would try to "fix it" by prayer, it goes against their belief system so they try to fix it! It's a free world, we can make fun of it, but it won't be new and surely wont be funny if you edit someone who, ill advised or not, actually dedicated her life to mediate those families through that difficult phase to make her look like, well, a bitch.Sorry about trying to teach comedy to you, but the video didn't work because you need to understand something before you make fun of it. Otherwise you will just repeat the same old ideas and sometimes, like in this case, you will totally miss the point.
Woa a lot of butthurt people on this video. Bottom line: Christians are retarded. Stop believing in a make believe miracle faerie in the sky who can give you eternal life.
I'm guessing the only person who is really butt hurt here is you. You probably spent a lot of time putting this piece together and you think it's hilarious.Making a mistake is one thing. Allowing it to continue unchecked and defending it is quite another. Set the clock for 60 seconds and see how many snarky comments you can make about that, bro.
Wow man, a lot of people trying to harsh my buzz in these comments. Commander Killjoy and his band of dubious Buzzkills.Back to the video... so the son came back to his mom just to help pitch her book via audio cassette tape? Why couldn't he be there in person? Was he wearing too much pink that day?
I think what we're forgetting here is that this woman still regarded homosexuality as a "problem" to be "fixed" by God. That she loved her son was great, but the kind of love that regards an integral part of your personal identity—who you'd like to have sex with—as inherently sinful isn't loving at all. How much anguish and torment did her son have to go through before he felt it necessary to prove to her and her family that he'd been "fixed"? Yeah, she seemed like a nice lady, but that doesn't make her stance on homosexuality any less wrong.
I'm not sure what you hope to accomplish with this edit. I am not a Christian and I've never voted for a Republican, but I recognize religion bashing when I see it.From Ms. Johnson's website:"Later, after coming to believe that gays can't be changed or "cured" and after a complete reconciliation with her son, she wrote "Thank You for Telling Me What I Didn't Want to Hear" and became an adviser to parents around the country dealing with the news that they had a gay child."So, your post of this edited video is analogous to what Andrew Breitbart did to Shirley Sherrod. He posted an edited video of her to make it seem like she was racist towards white people. In fact, the full video showed the opposite. Here, you took a video of a religious woman who does not believe that gay people can or should be changed or cured, and made it seem like she believed the opposite. Congratulation Yonder Breitbart!
Not funny. Hurtful.
"We're facing what could be the biggest shitstorm ever to hit our blog, we go now to Stormy Skies, our intrepid weather-man. Stormy, how's the weather out there?""I'M STANDING HERE IN THE MIDST OF THE BIGGEST SHITSTORM OF THE CENTURY. WE'VE GOT 200 MILE AN HOUR SHIT WINDS OUT HERE, IT'S HARD TO STAND UP. YOU CAN REALLY FEEL THE ELECTRICITY AND BUTTHURT IN THE AIR. MORE LATER!""Thanks, Stormy. Stay safe out there. After the break, clitoris, Fact of Fiction?"
Oh for the love of....I can't believe there are many in here who are upset with the video. Obviously they are not familiar with the humor of EIT. I have to assume some Christian site found this mock up and is sending over angry folk to express their disgust in lampooning this woman. Well folks that is what EIT does. Most people will know that a lot of videos are cut up and rearanged for a comidic and ironic effect. Does anyone think the Sponge Lady was really orgasming during her videos? Sure she was overzealous but it was editing to give it a more perverse and humourus feel.Loudersoft seems to take offense because Mrs. Johnson was made fun of. Are you not offended by others who are lampooned here? Kind of hypocritical wouldn't you say? Maybe Yonder Vittles and the other great talents that make up EIT should come to you first and make sure the person being skewered was not a kind old lady who recently passed away.
A swing and a miss...
It's interesting how people are lecturing EIT on what they did wrong here, when in fact we don't know their intent. This is a blog full of scrambled up videos. We assume they're trying to make us laugh through some subtle, non-explicit commentary. Really, though, the fact that it's not explicit means we will always be making assumptions about their opinions. EIT may just want to offend us, or disturb us, or depress us, or simply show how someone's perspective can be manipulated. There's nothing straight-forward about this site. You're attacking the air until we have a caption to this video that says, "This woman is a bad person because she preaches against gays."
Sweet walkman, Ma!
Glad to see this information.its very interesting.I would like to hear more information from your side.Escorts Barcelona
I was tempted to write my whole two-cents, but what does that accomplish?
"I was tempted to write my whole two-cents, but what does that accomplish?"Quoting Martin Luther King, Jr. is no way to make your point.
Please tell us you have more of this woman Yonder Vittles.
"Quoting Martin Luther King, Jr. is no way to make your point."witty but well-worn. points for effort.
thank you all for watching our videos, and taking the time to voice your thoughts on this public forum. i post videos that are my own personal subjective distillations of modernity as recorded by its active participants on video tape. in this role as an editor and archivist i work to provide my audience with an intellectually and ethically honest - albeit personal - interpretation of the original content. this particular video was not published to incite controversy, yet to promote a conversation about the work of ms. johnson and those of her ilk who promote the notion that homosexuality is a sin. this notion - perpetuated by otherwise loving families throughout the world - allows for lgbt children to enter a world, not of acceptance and love, but fear and confusion. this fear, referenced by ms. johnson's son in the audio recording featured in this video, and championed by fundamentalist cultures - christian, islamic, etc. - throughout the world, cultivates not only the desired compliance, but negativity, self-loathing,violence and hate.kids in evangelical christian/islamic/etc. families remain closeted and afraid because they are taught that their feelings of love, passion and discovery are sins - problems to be fixed. it is only by reevaluating the notion that being homosexual is a sin that we can foster a true environment of acceptance and love.my work as an editor is intended not to cast judgement upon the advocacy work of evangelical groups, yet present my personal interpretation of the video documents they leave. thank you all for engaging in this discussion and your suggestions of further reading on the work of ms. johnson.
My son is also a gay tape recorder.
My apologies. You said that, "ms. johnson and those of her ilk who promote the notion that homosexuality is a sin." I saw that she was a devout Christian who tried to get Christian parents to be accepting of their gay children. As I don't see that anywhere in the information about her, I need something that expresses it. That would really change how I look at things. If you want to post a link to something explaining that, I'd be thrilled. I would retract my statements.
Loudersoft:www.barbaraspatulajohnson.org/barbara/updates /parents_of_gay_children/From her advice to parents of gay children: "If he is caught in deep sin, willing to change, unwilling to change, or even if he is too uptight to talk about it with you, make him aware that your love does not depend on his behavior. You can love him because of his struggle, not in spite of it."Love the sinner, hate the sin. In other words, you're being gay is wrong in gods eyes and a sin, but I still love you. Not really love at all.
You'll burn in hell but I love you even if we won't see each other in the afterlife.Buy my product.
I stand corrected. SHE'S A WITCH, BURN HER.
Seriously, fuck everything about Christianity.
Next month I'll be attending a baby shower for a lesbian couple at my baptist church. We're not all anti-homosexual.
i think all the yelling has drowned out one the of the funniest comments i've ever read on this site, anonymous' "my son is also a gay tape recorder." bahahaha. lets just all take a moment to laugh, shall we? with humor as our weapon, we can surround hate and force it to surrender
I, too, appreciated the "gay tape recorder" gag.To me, this edit seemed kind of half-assed, therefore the joke becomes lost in translation.
If I ever caught my son in bed with another man, I'd stab them both to death!
Oh Nate, You say the darndest things!
More hilarity, less righteous outrage. I love this site and appreciate the subtle commentaries that come through in the edits, but this just wasn't that funny. Also, I love my gay telephone son.
YONDER VITTLES IS WORSE THAN HITLER
YV, your response was kinder and smarter than these morons deserve. Keep on rockin' in the free world. To those of you who said "this is religion bashing," oh boo fucking hoo...mustn't let RELIGION get bashed. Better to bash our own gay children, the kids we profess to love, than to say a word against RELIGION. Grow up, kids. p.s. God isn't real.
Evangelical christians are one step away from fixing homosexuality with a hammer. You've been warned!
god damn, what an awful mother.
that poor boy.how can there actually be people that think this way? come ON earth.
oh alsokadgi: i don't think that this website is for you
That's my problem with how Christianity is handled, you're supposed to be happy with the life God has given you but you musn't be gay. But was if being gay makes you happy, what are you supposed to do?I saw one of those awful, gay bashing preaching shows on tv back in the day and I became an atheist right there on the spot, I'll never forget it.
